Got into RC flying in 2011 and am loving this hobby! Using UA-cam to share a few of my flying experiences, when I get a chance to go flying!
ParkZone Radian RC glider flying off Deacon Hill, Bedfordshire
10mph-ish winds and some thermals (not while filming) made this an easy flying kind of day. Filmed on my mobile (Google Pixel 2) while flying.

Rubber Bowden Competition at ModelAir, Old Warden, September 2016
Переглядів 3,6 тис.7 років тому
A video of some very brave souls willing to give it a go with their lovely models in winds that must have been gusting over 30mph at ModelAir's Festival of Flight at the Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden, September 2016. The competition was the "Rubber Bowden" in which I believe the aim was to get as close to a 30 second flight (reduced from 40 due to the wind) as possible. I didn't manage to...
Vic Smeed Spot-Landing Competition at ModelAir, Old Warden, September 2016
Переглядів 6 тис.7 років тому
A video of a Vic Smeed spot-landing competition on the Sunday at ModelAir's Festival of Flight at the Shuttleworth Collection, September 2016. The wind wasn't as strong as on the Saturday but it wasn't far off. The wind made such a mighty noise on the mic on my camcorder I'm afraid the models were inaudible and so I've removed the audio to save your ears! I don't think I got them all on film an...
Free-Flight compilation at Old Warden ModelAir, July 2016
Переглядів 113 тис.7 років тому
Filmed in the Free-Flight/Radio Trim area of the ModelAir event on Saturday & Sunday, 23rd & 24th July 2016. It takes place on the airfield of the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden in Bedfordshire and is thoroughly worth a visit.
West Wings Swallow at ModelAir, Old Warden, May 2016
Переглядів 7 тис.7 років тому
Bungee launching my West Wings Swallow at a ModelAir event at the Shuttleworth Collection in May 2016. One of my favourite "little" planes, it always flies well, even with RC components added and if it catches a thermal it will happily stay aloft without much effort.
Old Warden Model MayFly 2016

Filmed in the Free-Flight/Radio Trim area of the ModelAir event at the excellent Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden, Bedfordshire on Saturday & Sunday, the 14th & 15th of May. As usual, a very enjoyable event with a fantastic array of models (and people!), of which this video shows only a few.
Old Warden Model Festival of Flight Sept. 2015 (Free Flight area)
Переглядів 52 тис.8 років тому
Filmed over both the Saturday & Sunday in September 2015, video clips of models in the free-flight/RTM area. Weather was fantastic all day on the Saturday and almost as good on the Sunday, just with a slightly stronger wind. In-between flying my own models, was able to capture some of the fantastic range of models inc. vintage & modern fuel & electric planes plus some gliders too. All-in-all a ...
Old Warden Model Festival of Flight Sept. 2014
Переглядів 19 тис.9 років тому
Filmed 27th and 28th September 2014 at Old Warden aka The Shuttleworth Collection. Two days of near-perfect weather in the "free-flight" area. Didn't get much filming in as we were too busy flying our own models. Thanks to the nice chap and his son who let us use their bungee nearly all day on the Sunday to launch our gliders!
Old Warden Free Flight July 2014

Sunday afternoon at Old Warden Model Flying in the free flight/RC assist area. A bit breezy but nice enough for plenty of folk to make the effort.
Dreamflight Libelle - Sunset Launches
Переглядів 6599 років тому
Third outing with my Dreamflight Libelle DLG. All have been late evening so no lift around really. Recorded these clips mostly to view my launching technique. Think I've still got plenty to learn. Can't wait until I get the chance to actually fly it in the day when there might be a sniff of a thermal!
Old Warden Model MayFly 2014

A lovely Sunday at Old Warden for the ModelAir MayFly event in the Free Flight area. A great casual, friendly atmosphere with lots of different models to watch and enjoy all day. Hopefully I might have a few to fly myself by the next one!
Old Warden Model Fying, September 2013
Переглядів 2,6 тис.10 років тому
A few short clips taken from the free-flight area at Old Warden on my phone, Sunday 8th September 2013. Definitely seems like the best day of the year attendance-wise. Next year I'll try and make sure my camcorder is charged!
2 spitfires at Wimpole Hall, September 2012
Переглядів 79611 років тому
Out for a walk and caught this little flying display as part of a 1940s day at Wimpole Hall, South Cambridgeshireshire. As usual, I left the camcorder at home so had to make do with mobile phone.
Chris Foss Middle Phase Glider slope soaring for the first time
Переглядів 14 тис.11 років тому
A few clips of me flying my Chris Foss Middle Phase glider off Peak Hill, near Sidmouth Devon whilst on holiday. First "proper" maiden, the only time I flew it before this was off a smaller hill with not enough lift, so it just glided to the bottom! Great fun, but as it's my first aileron plane, I've definitely got a lot to learn. If only there were some hills like this near where I live I migh...
Parkzone Radian RC glider slope-soaring at Deacon Hill
Переглядів 38 тис.12 років тому
Filmed over 2 days late March / early April 2012 at Deacon Hill in Central Bedfordshire. Wind ranged from almost nothing to about 10mph which suited the Radian well. Had 6 inquistive red kites (birds of prey) floating around as well.

Parkzone Radian flying at Formby Point
can you still fly there ? i want to get my radian pro and my axn floater there
Cant go wrong with a radian!!
Breezy days reported at the fly in, but fun was had by all.
Evoluzione in meglio o in peggio? Ho iniziato co l’elastico e lancio a mano poi motore 2,5 cm3 poi elettrico, ma di proporzioni limitate...oggi ho smesso, ma guardo con interesse per apprendere.
As a licensed pilot I’ve never seen an airplane I didn’t like.
I don’t understand the sound rubber bands?
Dear Sir! Oh yes, this scenery warms up my heart. Thank you for let me also stay there as an unvisible guest, which is possible by seeing your great video !!! Sub & Like is done. Greetings and a BIG THANK YOU !!! Frank ( Germany )
What king of motor have model from 1:46, looks cool :)
Anyone watching this this is old school underpowered free flight. I grew up with this and it's frustrating and loads of fun at the same time! Great vid cheers from Aus
That Beechcraft twin lovely
What is the model at 2:18?
Sorry, afraid I don't know. Hopefully someone else may be able to help you. The next event is this weekend so if you're able to make it, you may be able to see it yourself and ask the owner.
where do i buy these planes
Their plans (most of them) are for free download ! they can be found here : www.ffscale.co.uk/ ; Loads more here : www.outerzone.co.uk ; as for where you get them ? you BUILD them ! and its rewarding fun.
Wolf Clips you build them, usually from plans
Sympa cette rencontre !
Was it an extremely windy day, or something? The trees weren't moving much but the models were blown all over the shop!
It was indeed! I think the trees were too far away to give an idea of the wind, but if you look at the wind sock at 5:35 it's all over the place!
thank you for this video. Made me dream and unstress. Memories of my first books about models plane. So sweet memories
The Q-Tee was built from the top quality HangarCats short kit hangarcats.com/ My model is 3-channel RC. You can get the details here www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1921935 Keep the tail end light. Hope this motivates!! PS - I was maybe one of the longest travelled to the Mayfly. We drove from Germany just for the event! Will be there again May13/14th 2017.
Good to know, thanks! That's quite a journey, a bit longer than mine... just 10 miles away! Very lucky to have it on my door step :-)
In the 70's I lived in Bedford and commuted to Vauxhall every day. Both my kids were born in Bedford. Attended all the model events at Old Warden (remember Kite Day?). Transferred to Opel, which is what got me to Germany. The long weekend to Old Warden and back is pure nostalgia and well worth all the driving. Not just for the model flying, but raiding Sainsbury's for pork pies, Cornish pasties, English sausages, English bacon.........
I was also flying my Q-Tee and Schoolmaster. If you look up ''Q-Tee'' on Outerzone there is a picture from Saturday morning of both models with ''product placement'' of the Outerzone T-Shirt !
Thanks for the extra info, I didn't seem to get either of those on film. The "Q-Tee" is just what it says on the tin. Might be one to add to my list. What's the motor/ESC/prop set-up on it? Was it flying on a timer? Cheers :-)
Yes it's a Kavan Bloody Mary ARTF. Mine! It also can be seen at 9:00. It's about 12 years old and I took it along to fly when it was gusty as it has earned its keep many times over. Flies on a Speed 400 with gearbox. I mostly scratchbuild. At 1:58 is my Fizz. You can just make out the name if you stop frame. In case you're scratching your heads about that one too, it's a new build of a model I designed and built in 1973 with a Cox glow. It's on the lines on Ken Willard's models.
Браво! Бе - 12 -- это круто!!!
Nice music and great scale speed flying
Thanks :-)
What is the name of the model at 7:40?
Hi, I believe it is a Golden Eagle III. There's some discussion on it at hippocketaeronautics.com here: www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_forum/index.php?topic=2554.0
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
Cool, worlds only hand made Free-flight 1/72 scale jet models at artinmotionbyjames.com
Thanks for the video enjoyed watching
Thanks for the comment Mike :-)
What's the twin engined rubber biplane flying boat at around 1:57 ? would love to build that
+korale I'm afraid I don't know. Hopefully someone else might. Failing that, I'll ask at the next one in July if I see it there :-)
great video, love freeflight, i was wondering if the free flight sessions were on both sat and sun or just on sunday - thanks - pete
+tbobborap1 Thank you, me too. I've replied to your other comment too, but thought I might as well reply here too :-) Free-flight is on the Saturday and Sunday at all the ModelAir events at Old Warden. Sunday is looking the best weather-wise for this weekend, but I'll be there both days :-)
+MrDazedOne thanks again - pete
great video, love freeflight, i was wondering if the free flight sessions were on both sat and sun or just on sunday - thanks - pete
+tbobborap1 Thank you, me too (although normally my models have a rudder as I can't afford to lost them!). Free-flight is on the Saturday and Sunday at all the ModelAir events at Old Warden. Sunday is looking the best weather-wise for this weekend, but I'll be there both days :-)
+MrDazedOne many thanks, prob go sunday, last time i went old warden was 2000 !
Next best thing to a cricket match and a pint of ale .
Sympa ce type de rassemblement ! il y a vraiment de tout c'est super ! bons vols...
whats making the humming noice .?
+Jerry Anstey Hi, thanks for your comment. I'm assuming you're talking about the most pervasive, loud, high-pitched humming? This is mostly the control-line planes about 100 metres or so away. But there are also the engines of some of the powered free-flight models and an RC section with some pretty large planes all adding to the lovely background noise :-)
Wonderful madness - thank you for uploading!!
great stuff. one of the best this year1
Brilliant video. Those home built planes are the best.
Vintage Balsa
more vintage gliders please. fun stuff.
nice minimoa
Well done. Will you be documenting the 2015 event?
+Vintage Balsa Thanks. Yes, I will be there. Have been to the previous 2 this year too but I'm too busy flying to do much recording! Will try harder in September. My father-in-law recorded the free-flight area for the July one though. Link to video here: ua-cam.com/video/r4-TXbnkEQY/v-deo.html
+MrDazedOne Thanks.
Good vid, how are the gliders being towed? A winch?
Hi, sorry, I must have missed this question when you posted it. Some of the gliders are being towed by someone running along the ground with a fish-line or similar, but most are being launched with a bungee. The one I use with the red & white West Wings Swallow is based on the Peterborough Club 36" glider event (www.peterboroughmfc.org/membersmodels2012/05BungeeGlider.htm), namely 5 foot or so of 1/8" rubber and then 10 foot of light tow-line from freeflightsupplies.co.uk.
Thanks.
Well done.
Excellent, well done.
Would you mind if I asked for some advice about the planes at 0:26 on RCGroups?
imcarlvideos Not at all, they are obviously not my planes and were on public view so see no reason why not.
Nice planes & great filghts...!!
What are the 2 planes at 0:26?
imcarlvideos I'm afraid I don't know. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can answer. The next Old Warden Free Flight event is this weekend so if I see those models again I'll ask and let you know :-)
Thank you very much for replying and offering to investigate. I love the look of the old timers and that particular plane caught my eye. I am thinking of trying a scratch build and that plane would be great, although I am very much a beginner.
vic smeed madcaps?
Well spotted, Tim. The plan for the Madcap on Outerzone looks to be for the same plane www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=3445
Nice flights - love the last few minutes with the really close-up shots and just above the ground…especially that touch-n-go! WOW! The air looks really clean and un-turbulent.
Raymond Merrill Thank you, the wind was pretty smooth for the most part. It still caught me out on a few occasions though, ending up in a tree on one! No major harm done though and I still fly it most flying days as a relaxing warm up before trying my hand at something faster :-)
Parkzone should use this video to promote the Radian. Nicely done. Its looks like it's being filmed by a chase plane.
zhillsx Thanks, very nice of you to say so. No chase plane, just my father-in-law's steady hand on the camcorder :-)
gotta love the Libelle. Absolutely gorgeous backdrop and silhouette footage
Thanks for your comment. Somehow I've only just noticed it :-)
Electronic mini timer for gliders ua-cam.com/video/99yO_rJ0oeA/v-deo.html
Sweet video, im getting my Radian in a few months and i cant wait to give this a go. Any tips for modifications to the radian?
Many kinds of airplanes. A large number of people. It is a wonderful fly-in. Japan doesn't have a similar fly-in. I want to look to enjoy the fly-in of the free flight, the next time.
It is a great event, next one in March :-)
Really nice Radian video. Most people turn on the motor and immediately fly out of camera range. Thanks for showing the plane is actually a light glider with motor assist.
Thank you for your kind comment. It's how I love to fly it best... off a slope with a gentle breeze, with it straight in front of me, not craning my neck to squint at a speck in the sky :-)
wonderful sailplane ... Glide slope is unreal
not a park flyer
Greg Inman takes forever to land
God i want one of these so badly. :(
Getting one in 4 weeks ;)
HobbyDude Lucky you! Have fun :-) Mine's currently grounded awaiting modification of the firewall to take a new motor, after I bent the shaft of the original motor when moving house :-(
HobbyDude How'd it go?
